She-Wolf Theatre Collective was formed by 8 women in 2018. We met for the first time that year and had the honour and privilege of performing The Vagina Monologues together in the Lyric Theatre, Belfast. We talked about the power of women on stage, telling their stories. We talked about the difficulties of working in theatre with all the commitments women often have. We talked about wanting to see more women on stage, behind the stage, writing, directing, performing, you name it. We talked A LOT. And then we decided to form our collective.
The She -Wolf Theatre Collective aims to enable, educate and encourage women (back) into theatre. We exist to produce female focused theatre, which champions and advances women artists. With the support of the wonderful MAC here in Belfast, we have held our Sunday Service reading events, where we encourage local female writers to submit work that we can read out. We’re also putting together a programme of workshops to develop ourselves and other women as artists and we’re planning productions for 2020 using the plethora of female talent we have all around us.
We are inspired by movements such as Waking the Feminists, M.A.M. Northern Ireland and ERA50:50 amongst others.
